In 1971, the first computer virus, “Creeper” was invented. Believing it to be a form of self-expression, it would display the phrase, “I’m the creeper, catch me if you can!”
The First Computer Game Was Made for an Oscilloscope, “Tennis for Two” by William Higinbotham.
The First Mouse Was Made of Wood. The original prototype had a wooden shell, with two thin metal wheels (one for X-axis, one for Y-axis). The patent was filed around June 27, 1967 as an “X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System”
The Internet Was Almost Called the “Intergalactic Network”. J.C.R. Licklider’s concept of the “Intergalactic Computer Network” was partly a tongue-in-cheek acknowledgment of how ambitious the idea was: linking computers everywhere, allowing users to access programs and data from any site.
